Unfortunately, most termite infestations are not noticed until damage to the structure has already occurred. Termites enter structures through plumbing penetrations, cracks (as small as 1/64 of an inch) in the slab or by building mud tubes up foundation walls and can go undetected for years.
Termites in North Texas generally swarm in April and may start building “SWARM CASTLES” as early as February. However, termites DO NOT always swarm indoors where they could be noticed. Depending on the weather conditions they may have multiple swarm castles both indoors and out. If the reproductives do not swarm, they will just die out in the mud tunnels or swarm castle(s). Often times they are mistaken for flying ants or they swarm outdoors unnoticed. Termites generally only swarm once per year.
The swarmers are a symptom and not the problem. A termite colony will start producing winged reproductives once it reaches maturity “approximately 60,000 workers”. The colony itself remains and continues to grow and feed from year to year and may number over 1 MILLION WORKERS if left untreated, an average small colony (“60,000 workers”) can consume approximately the equivalent of 2 1/3 ft of a 2×4 per year.
Most, if not all, insurance companies list this type of damage as an act of GOD, or Nature, and therefore it will NOT be covered. The only solution is a qualified termite control professional – exterminator. ALL PRO PEST SERVICES is that SOLUTION!
